Glaucoma management

State-of-the-art instrumentation and treatment

Lidkea Optometry uses state-of-the-art instrumentation and treatment options in carefully managing Glaucoma and retinal diseases, such as macular degeneration.

The Zeiss Stratus OCT provides virtual cross sectional images of the retina for clinical evaluation in the detection of glaucoma and retinal diseases. The Zeiss OCT images and analyzes macular thickness, the retinal nerve fiber layer, and the optic nerve using the latest technology for high resolution scans. This results in data that enhances Dr. Lidkea's ability to diagnose and manage a patient's glaucoma or retinal disease.

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and a potentially blinding disease when not detected early and treated properly. It is estimated that up to 50% of the population that has Glaucoma is unaware that they have this blinding disease. Glaucoma is commonly referred to as "the silent thief of sight" because it is insidious and has no symptoms of which the patient is aware. Treatment most often is with prescription eye drops, and sometimes surgery is necessary in conditions not controlled properly with medicine.

Glaucoma can be very subtle at times in its presentation and can be missed by the examining doctor. A screening with the Zeiss Stratus OCT will detect Glaucoma in its earliest stages. This is why annual eye examinations are so important in testing for "the silent thief of sight".
